Poetry Night Recommendations for 2015

Based on the expression, "if you knew then, what you know now" what recommendations would you make to bump-up the experiences/preparations for running and hosting Poetry Night?

  1. I would recommend that next years group would finish all the scripts a few days before poetry night so that there is time for them to get more familiar with there parts so their not reading mostly of the cue cards.

  2. I think that next years group should practice in advance for all the guiding questions to read out loud at poetry night because the more time you have the more you will have an understanding of what your talking about. I also think hat we should bring a lot more food because in the first minute of poetry night all the food was gone except for the vegtables.

  3. I think that next next year we can talk to the audience during the intermission about Be The Change and also explain more about what we have accomplished during the years of BTC.

  4. I think we should do something for the refreshment table because all of the students of poetry night took all of the refreshments before even the parents/guardians can eat or drink something

  5. I think that next year we should finish the work so you are ready for the next step. Also to know that all the time spent on poetry night pays of.

  6. In my opinion, some recommendations that I have for poetry night is that maybe the people that are participating in poetry night should have the option of if they want to or not interact with the audience. Personally, I think this is a good idea because it would be more exciting and fun, for both the audience and the poets that are participating.

  7. From my experience, Poetry Night was for the most part successful. However, when I saw BTC perform the poem at the end some people were distracted and I think that BTC could have sent across an even better image or message from their poem. I think the poem was well-performed, but not to the very best of their abilities, so in my opinion practice more in advance and in greater quantity would be more effective. I would also recommend that if we choose to sell Me To We pencils again, it should be more advertised so we have greater sales.

  8. I think for next year we can finish the work earlier so we won't rush at the end, we could also tell more facts.

  9. Though, BTC did a very good job this year with Poetry Night, I feel like there is some stuff we can improve on. Next year, BTC can make sure they connect to the audience more, while performing the BTC poem, reciting our scripts, or at the break. For example, while we perform the BTC poem we should look at people in the audience and make sure that they feel like we are speaking directly to them.

  10. It was a lot of hard work and extra time commitment to successfully run a an event from the very beginning to the very end. Extra time included staying after school on more the one day in the week, staying in for recesses, using class time to work on my BTC tasks instead of my in school work tasks.

Running an event like poetry night gives you several learning skill that will be used in the future. some of these skills is: you get out of it what you put into it, meaning the amount of work you put into something you will get that much use out of it and it will be that helpfull. Also it taught me how to keep others on task and work in a collaborative group peacfuly. The thing that was most amazing was seeing the amount of primary kids were doing poems and enjoying it, this is important because when this generation of grade 6 leaves it is up to them to carry on poetry night and to see how enthusiastic they were makes it seem like its going to be ok when we leave.

  11. I think next years BTC group should not wait till the last minute to finish tasks. For example, the research for free the children, MDGS etc so that they are prepared for whenever they need need it.

  12. I agree with Sumana, I think that next year the BTC group should explain about what they have accomplished as a BTC group. I also think that they should take more time to practice their parts so that they can be louder, more powerful, and have more expression in their voice when they are speaking. I think that they should start the dress rehearsal and the set up of the gym earlier so that we can end earlier, and not have to go into after school time.

  13. I think we should of put the facts (MGD's, UN Conventions, and the five pillars) on the pamphlet as well asn telling the audience the facts. Also, we should of put more food because after the first intermission almost all the food was gone.

  16. I think next years group should put even more work outside of school because when you do that the work gets done faster and it is more organised on the night of poetry night because everything was in by the due date so we have gone over the poetry night schedule in advance.

  17. For next year, some recommendations would be to finish the work earlier so we can have more practice time. We would need to finish the scripts earlier. Then we would have more practice time and we wouldn't be looking at the cue cards the whole time so we could interact more with the audience. We needed more practice with the BTC poem because we were the last poets and we had a really powerful message that we gave out to the audience. Next time we should have advertise the mechanical pencils if we new about them so we could have raised a bit more.

  18. For next year, some recommendations would be to finish all our work about two day before annotative so we can be prepared to speak during the presentation on student of the month. We could also have pamphlets to give home to talk about what vow of silence is before the day.
