  2. I really enjoyed running this event because not only did i have a good time but i knew that all the funds would be going to free the children to help build a school in haiti so i knew that i was taking part in part in a very helpful event. I learned that if you preform at poetry night you shouldn't be afraid because once you perform for a while or once or twice your confidence starts to build and everything gets easier. My prodoust moment at poetry night was when we did the BTC poem because i think it had a big message that the audience eally understood.

  3. Personally, running the event was a lot of work because we had to organize, create, set up and flyers/media forms. We where in rush sometimes so every thing was ready for the big night. The BTC group had a great time creating porters and wighting scripts for the anointments. Also, making flyers and putting different kids at different times at the show.

  4. i thought that running poetry night from beginning to end was very useful because if we ever want to run a big event in the future we will now all the steps that we need to take. This experience changed me as a person because it made me less nervous from standing up in front of an audience. My proudest moment was when we recited the poem because at first i was nervous but when i got on stage i realized that there was nothing to be afraid of.

  5. In my opinion, running the Poetry Night event was very fun but although hard to, from the start of having the idea, planning on it, and staying after school, it was fun, hard, and sometimes tiring all at the same time. From this experience of running an event ourselves, I learned a very important skill that i needed to work on, such as social skills as I did speeches, perform poems, and welcome the guests at the doorway. My proudest moment is walking up on the stage and do a speech, because i am not very bold when it comes to talking to an audience. It also helped me develop my social skills.

    1. (for first part)

It also gives me the opportunity to have more experience running an event ourselves. This can further expand my opportunities to run an event individually in the future, which will better have a better chance to run the event smoothly.

  7. It felt good to run this event because we had to be in charge, and it gave us the responsibility to pay attention. What I learnt during poetry night is to work as a group and take in charge, and to be prepared because if you are not then you might forget your lines, you might forget to go up and perform. Poetry Night changed me by making me aware that we as kids can help other people we can raise money to help them or donate, also most of this was new for me so it has taught me a lot. My proudest moment was when we were performing the Be The Change poem because we are proud to run this event.

  9. I learned from this experience that it is a lot of work to put together a big night. Before I was in BTC I always thought that the teachers put Poetry Night together, and now I see it takes a lot of work and extra hours to get every thing going.

  11. In my opinion, I think running the event from the beginning to the end was great because our show was successful and I also had a great time too. I also felt great about knowing that we are also helping children around the world when we donate our money to Free The Children. Preparing everything was also fun too. After my performance, I learned that I shouldn't be afraid to go up on the stage and say my poem. Also, everyone in the audience was respectful and was listening to our poems without being noisy. Poetry night has changed me by letting me know that performing on stage isn't all so scary. I felt really proud after seeing so many parents and children come to poetry night. I also felt proud after when we performed our BTC poem together as a group. The audience really understood our message and was also clapping a lot which was awesome

  13. It felt very successful to run Poetry Night from beginning to end, because when I went around at intermission asking people if they had any questions, they said no which meant that we clearly explained the message we were trying to tell them and they understood it. During Poetry Night I learnt that I have to really project my voice and express what I am trying to say with different volumes in my voice, so that the audience really believes in what I am saying. My proudest moment was when I went around asking if people had any questions and they said that they didn't. (They understood)

    1. I think that Poetry Night was one of the harder initiatives to pull off especially with the amount of time we had. We as a BTC group pulled it off and did a great job. We also got the audience fully engaged.

  15. I enjoyed running poetry night because it was a new experience and I have never run an event so big before so i found it useful. I leaned how much work it takes to run something like this like food, try outs, practices, ticket sales and pamphlets.

    1. I also enjoyed the brainstorming part of poetry night and come up with it and reading out the facts to the audience. I also learned that there is a strong message which is to bring notice to education in other countries.

  16. I think Poetry was a very good experience to run from beginning to end. I saw Poetry Night 2014 in development and I assisted in that development. I felt a sense of accomplishment to see Poetry Night completed and that I contributed to it.

I learned so much from this experience, from how to run an event to how to impact citizens to create local and global change, and be a part of it myself. These past few Poetry Nights have changed the way I think about BTC and how much impact I as a global citizen can have.

My proudest moment was after the event, when the audience was exiting the gym and the performers were talking about how happy they were. I felt proud that I was a part of making that happen and that because of me, children in developing countries are one step closer to getting a full education. I am glad that I am a part of such an amazing event.

  17. After running Poetry Night from the beginning to the end, I felt very proud of BTC because of all the hard work we did building up to this event. From writing a community letter to writing a script and performing it in front of an audience. Most of this was very new to me, and it all taught me a lot about how to run an event. But mostly, I learned how to successfully work as a team to get a task done, and how to write a script, perform it, and engage an audience with it. I will use all of these skills to help me in the future, with future tasks and challenges.

Overall, my favourite and proudest moment in Poetry Night is performing and entertaining the audience with my group's speech on education. I felt everyone was watching us and engaged with what we had to say, even when we left the stage the audience was clapping and I could tell that they enjoyed it.

  20. Running poetry night from the begging allowed me to see what it takes to run an event. For example, we set up the event, hosted it and then cleaned it up therefore it was a very long day for us. Having the long day showed uus how much commitment we need to have to run the event. I learned a lot about the issue of education and it made me realize that not everybody has the same opportunities as i do hear at McMurrich.

  21. I enjoyed preparing for Poetry Night because i got to learn a lot about Free the Children and eduaction in Haiti. I learned that 70%of 1 billion people living in poverty are girls. Thats almost 3 quarters of 1 million. it changed me and made me more aware of situations around the world. For instance, girls, even when they go to school they are abused. My proudest moment was when i wrote my Free the Children speech. even though i didnt get to recite it i learned a lot from it and i think Danielle and i did a good job on it.

  22. In my opinion I thought that Poetry Night was going to be easy and that it would run smoothly. But when Poetry Night occured it was challinging because we had to deal with being nervous, and memorizing lines so that it could run smoothly. However, Poetry Night ran exremely smoothly and im am very proud of myself and everyone else that helped make it successful. Something that I learned that improved me as a leader was being responsible. For example, we had to memorize all of our lines which clearly showed being responsible. My proudest moment was opening up the night with Hannah. I felt very confident and I really hope that I can experience what i did at Poetry Night!

  23. Poetry Night was a very successful initiative. Running it from beginning to end was a great experience because at intermission we got to socialize with some parents and understand how much they like having this event at Mcmurrich. I learnt that this event has a really powerful message behind it. The event change me by realizing how much we can do and by helping children all around the world that don't have rights like us. My proudest moment was when I did the speech about Free The Children because the speech connected to the audience.

  24. I think running poetry night was a great experience for me it was fun running the event but also challenging for me, staying in to finish last minute for work to get done to having our final rehearsal and lastly poetry night. from this experience i have learned how much work people put into these events and the steps it takes to create a event, we needed to do set up clean up and a whole bunch of work before the event. I was also very pleased and happy when I saw students come out for the first time so they could raise money for someone else to have an education. I am proud about going up and spreading the word about gender equality. from this experience i will take away having more confidence. :)

  25. It was fun to give out the pamphlets out to the audience and also greeting them at the same time. It was my first time hosting poetry night so I was nervous when I first stepped in front of the audience but when I finished my first part in poetry night i gained a bit of confidence. I felt exited more than nervous and that point on it was a great experience for my first time and my last time hosting the event. Poetry night changed me as a person to be a greater leader because i was in the role of leading.

  27. It was a lot of hard work and extra time commitment to successfully run a an event from the very beginning to the very end. Extra time included staying after school on more the one day in the week, staying in for recesses, using class time to work on my BTC tasks instead of my in school work tasks.

Running an event like poetry night gives you several learning skill that will be used in the future. some of these skills is: you get out of it what you put into it, meaning the amount of work you put into something you will get that much use out of it and it will be that helpfull. Also it taught me how to keep others on task and work in a collaborative group peacfuly. The thing that was most amazing was seeing the amount of primary kids were doing poems and enjoying it, this is important because when this generation of grade 6 leaves it is up to them to carry on poetry night and to see how enthusiastic they were makes it seem like its going to be ok when we leave.
